Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The central electronic module (CEM) activates the washer pump by connecting the control line of one of two pump relays in the passenger compartment fuse box to ground. The code is set when the control signal to the windscreen washer relay is low even though windscreen washing has not been activated, or when the control module detects an open circuit.
Possible causes
- Open circuit on the signal wire from the CEM to the relay
- The signal wire is shorted to ground
- Damaged relay
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then run the windscreen washer and see whether it works and whether the code returns
- 2Check the washer pump fuses in the passenger compartment fuse box and make sure they are intact
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the relay has no contact with ground (the bodywork) and is not broken
- 4Check that the connectors at the relay and in the passenger compartment fuse box are fully engaged and not corroded
- 5If the wire is sound, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the relay and the control signal
Symptoms you may notice2
- The windscreen washer does not work
- The windscreen washing is poor
