Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The central electronic module (CEM) supplies the motor for the headlight washers, which spray the headlights with high pressure. The code is set when the output gives too high a signal, which may be caused by the supply wire to the motor being shorted to voltage.
Possible causes
- The supply wire to the washer motor is shorted to voltage
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then test the headlight washer and see whether it works
- 2Check the headlight washer fuse in the engine bay fuse box
- 3Look for chafing and marks on the supply wire to the washer motor
- 4Use a multimeter to see whether the supply wire has voltage with the ignition off, which shows a short to voltage
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the headlight washing and check that the motor starts and sprays
Symptoms you may notice2
- The headlight washer motor does not work
- Headlight cleaning does not work
What the fault can affect3
- The headlight washing switches off during the driving cycle in which the fault is detected
- After repeated driving cycles with the fault, the function is switched off permanently
- Clearing the code and starting a new driving cycle resets the output
