CEM-B1D3816 - Front wiper motor. General Electrical Failures. Circuit voltage below threshold
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The control module (CEM) exchanges messages with the windscreen wiper module (WMM), which runs the wipers. The code is set when the supply voltage to the WMM is too low, which can be caused by poor contact, a short to ground or a weak battery.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the terminals and connections
- The supply wire is shorted to ground
- Battery voltage too low
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then run the wipers and see whether they work
- 2Check the battery condition and that its terminals are tight, since too low a voltage causes the fault
- 3Check the windscreen wiper fuse
- 4Check the connectors at the wiper control module for oxidation and loose connections
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire has no contact with ground (the bodywork) and is intact
Symptoms you may notice1
- The windscreen wiper does not work
