What does this fault code mean?
The central electronic module (CEM) supplies the brake lights. The code is set when the supply wire is shorted to ground, and then the brake lights do not come on when you press the brake pedal. Because brake lights matter to other road users, the fault should be fixed promptly.
Possible causes
- The supply wire to the brake lights is shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code and check the brake lights by pressing the brake pedal
- 2Check that the brake light fuse is intact and that the bulbs are not blown
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the brake lights with it and see whether both lamps come on
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire has no contact with ground (the bodywork)
- 5If the wire is intact, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the module output
Symptoms you may notice2
- The brake lights do not come on when you press the brake pedal
- Message in the display
What the fault can affect3
- The function switches off during the driving cycle in which the fault is detected
- After repeated driving cycles with the fault, the function is switched off permanently
- Clearing the fault codes and starting a new driving cycle resets the output
