VOLVO
CEM-C111B11 - Left Stop Lamp. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to ground
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The central electronic module (CEM) feeds the left brake light directly from an output. On V70 and XC70 one output feeds both brake lights, so both can be affected. The code is set when the signal is too low, which can be caused by poor contact or a short to ground.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or play in the connections
- The signal wire is shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then press the brake pedal and see whether the left brake light comes on
- 2Check that the bulb in the left brake light is intact
- 3Check the brake light fuse; on the V70 and XC70 the right brake light can also be affected, so check it too
- 4Check the connections to the left brake light for oxidation and play
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with ground (the bodywork); otherwise have a workshop check the module output
Symptoms you may notice3
- The left brake light does not work
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- The bulb failure warning in the instruments comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect3
- The function switches off during the driving cycle in which the fault is detected
- After repeated driving cycles with the fault, the function is switched off permanently
- Clearing the fault codes and starting a new driving cycle resets the output
