What does this fault code mean?
The brake light switch at the pedal has stuck in a position where it does not register the brake being pressed. The control module therefore receives no signal of braking, even though brake pressure is present. The cause may be a switch that is incorrectly fitted, damaged or jammed.
Possible causes
- The brake light switch has stuck in the open position
- The brake light switch is damaged
- The brake light switch is incorrectly fitted
What you can do
- 1Look at the brake light switch by the pedal: is it correctly seated, and does it move when the pedal is pressed?
- 2Ask someone to check whether the brake lights come on when you press the pedal. If they do not come on at all, that matches the fault
- 3Check that the fuses for the brake lights are intact, using the owner's manual
- 4Have a workshop correct or replace the switch if it is incorrectly fitted, damaged or jammed
- 5Brake lights are important for road safety, so get this fault fixed promptly
