What does this fault code mean?
The control module receives no message from the left steering wheel buttons, even though they should communicate over the LIN bus. The fault may come from a short circuit or open circuit in the LIN wiring, or from another unit disturbing the bus. It mainly shows up in the cruise control, which does not work at all.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the LIN wires
- Open circuit in one of the LIN wires
- Internal fault in another unit on the same part of the LIN network
- The left steering wheel buttons (SWSL) do not respond
What you can do
- 1Check whether the cruise control works after you switch the ignition off and on again
- 2Read the fault code. If there are further fault codes from other units in the car, troubleshoot those first, since another unit on the same network may be the cause
- 3Have a workshop check the LIN wiring to the steering wheel buttons for breaks and short circuits. Work in the steering wheel involves the airbag, so leave that to the workshop
- 4Clear the fault code and road test to see whether it returns
Symptoms you may notice2
- Cruise control does not work at all
- Cruise control does not engage
