Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The central module receives no signal from the steering wheel module (SWM), so the controls in the steering wheel cannot be used. The cause may be a short circuit or break in the LIN wire, or a fault in another unit on the same network. It can affect the wipers, the washers, the indicators and cruise control.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the LIN wires
- Open circuit in one of the LIN wires
- Fault in another unit on the same LIN network
What you can do
- 1Check that the wipers, the washers and the indicators work, and note which ones do not
- 2The wires to the steering wheel sit close to the airbag. Have a workshop check them, because work there involves the airbag
- 3If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the steering wheel module (SWM)
Symptoms you may notice4
- The windscreen wipers do not work
- Washing does not work
- The indicator switch does not work
- Radio and phone controls on the steering wheel are inoperative
