VOLVO
CEM-DD51 - Communication with the steering wheel module (SWM). Signal missing
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The central module receives no communication from the cruise control switch in the steering wheel, so cruise control does not work at all. The fault may come from a short circuit or break in the LIN wire, or from an internal fault in another control module on the same part of the network.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the LIN wires
- Open circuit in one of the LIN wires
- Faulty operation of another control module on the same LIN network
What you can do
- 1Check that the cruise control buttons in the steering wheel do not stick and that they return when released
- 2The wiring to the cruise control switch runs in the steering wheel, close to the airbag, so have a workshop check it
- 3Do not replace the central module if other fault codes for a short circuit on the LIN bus are present. The fault then lies in the wiring or in another unit
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the cruise control switch
Symptoms you may notice1
- Cruise control does not work at all
