Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
Despite the code being named after the SWM, it concerns the audio and telephone switch in the steering wheel. The central module receives no communication from it, so the audio and telephone buttons on the steering wheel stop working. The cause may be a short circuit or break in the LIN wire, or an internal fault in another control module on the same part of the network.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the LIN wires
- Open circuit in one of the LIN wires
- Fault in another unit on the same LIN network
What you can do
- 1Test the audio and telephone buttons on the steering wheel and note which ones do not work
- 2The wires to the steering wheel sit close to the airbag. Have a workshop check them, because work there involves the airbag
- 3If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the audio and telephone switch
Symptoms you may notice2
- The audio buttons on the steering wheel do not work
- The telephone buttons on the steering wheel do not work
