CEM-DE43
VOLVO
CEM-DE43 - Communication with the driver door module (DDM). Signal missing
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
Communication between the CEM and the driver door module (DDM) is not working. As a result the driver door cannot be operated from the central locking switch, and the switch panel in the door does not work. The fault is most often caused by a blown fuse, a break in the earth or a poor connection, but the CAN network can also be the cause.
Possible causes
- Blown fuse
- No supply to the DDM
- Open circuit in the earth wire to the DDM
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the LS-CAN wires to the DDM
- The DDM does not suit the car, for example a used module with other software or hardware
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on, try the window buttons in the driver door. If the window moves, the DDM has power and the fault is likely in the communication
- 2Check the driver door fuses in the engine bay fuse box and in the CEM. If one has blown, check its circuit for a short to earth
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the earth wire from the DDM has no break
- 4Check the connector at the DDM for loose connections and corrosion
- 5With a diagnostic tool, read the DDM ID. If it reads, the CAN communication is probably fine and the fault may be intermittent
- 6Do not replace the CEM for this code; the fault lies in the communication with the door module
Symptoms you may notice2
- The driver door cannot be locked or unlocked with the central locking switch
- The switch panel in the driver door does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The DDM goes into limp-home mode, so the door functions are only partly available
