CEM-DE45
VOLVO
CEM-DE45 - Communication with the passenger door module (PDM). Signal missing
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM cannot communicate with the passenger door module (PDM), so the passenger door cannot be operated from the central locking switch and the switch panel in the door does not work. The most common cause is a damaged fuse, supply, earth or a connector at the PDM, but the LS-CAN wiring can also be the fault.
Possible causes
- Damaged fuse
- No supply to the PDM
- Open circuit in the earth wire to the PDM
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the LS-CAN wires to the PDM
- The PDM does not suit the car, for example a used module with other software or hardware
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on, try the window buttons in the passenger door. If the window moves, the PDM has power and the fault is likely in the communication
- 2Check the passenger door fuses in the engine bay fuse box and in the CEM. If one has blown, check its circuit for a short to earth
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the earth wire from the PDM has no break
- 4Check the connector at the PDM for loose connections, corrosion and damage
- 5With a diagnostic tool, read the PDM ID. If it reads, the CAN communication is probably fine and the fault may be intermittent
- 6The CEM normally does not need replacing for this code, because the fault lies in the communication with the door module
Symptoms you may notice2
- The passenger door cannot be operated from the central locking switch
- The switch panel in the passenger door does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The PDM goes into limp-home mode, so the door functions are only partly available
