CEM-DE54
VOLVO
CEM-DE54 - Communication with the infotainment control module (ICM). Signal missing
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM has lost contact with the infotainment control module (ICM), so the keypad and volume knob may stop working. The fault is set when communication on the low speed CAN breaks down. The cause is most often the supply to the module, its earth or the connector.
Possible causes
- No supply to the infotainment control module (ICM)
- Open circuit in the earth wire to the ICM
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the LS-CAN wires to the ICM
- The ICM does not suit the car, for example a used module with other software or hardware
What you can do
- 1Switch the ignition on, then the radio. The ICM display should light. If it does not, the module probably has no supply or earth
- 2Check the infotainment fuse in the engine bay fuse box and the ICM fuse in the CEM. If one has blown, check its circuit for a short to earth
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire between the ICM and earth has no break and is not shorted to supply voltage
- 4With a diagnostic tool, read the ICM ID. If it reads, the communication is probably fine and the fault may be intermittent and harder to find
- 5Check that the keypad and volume knob are fitted securely and that the connector is properly seated
- 6After any repair, reseat the connectors, switch the ignition on and check that the fault does not return
Symptoms you may notice2
- The buttons on the keypad do not work
- The volume knob does not work
