VOLVO
CEM-DE58 - Communication with the supplemental restraint system module (SRS). Signal missing
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM has lost contact with the supplemental restraint system module (SRS), and the SRS warning lamp in the instrument cluster comes on. The fault is most often caused by supply, earth or a connector at the SRS module, or by a break in the LS-CAN wiring.
Possible causes
- No supply to the SRS module
- Break in the earth connection to the SRS module
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the LS-CAN wires to the SRS module
- The SRS module does not suit the car, for example a used module with other software or hardware
What you can do
- 1Switch the ignition on. The SRS lamp should light and then go out; if it stays on, the system has a fault
- 2Check that the SRS fuses in the engine bay fuse box and in the CEM are intact, without removing or replacing any of them
- 3With a diagnostic tool, read the SRS module ID. If it reads, the CAN communication is probably fine and the fault may be intermittent
- 4The CEM should not be replaced for this code, because it shows a communication fault on the CAN network
- 5The airbag system is safety-critical. Do not work on it or its wiring yourself; have a workshop check the module and wiring
Symptoms you may notice1
- The SRS warning lamp is lit
