CEM-DE63
VOLVO
CEM-DE63 - communication with the parking assistance module (PAM). Signal missing
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM has no contact with the parking assistance module (PAM), so the park assist does not work. The fault most often lies in the supply to the PAM, its earth or the connector at the module. It can also be a break in the LS-CAN wiring.
Possible causes
- No supply to the PAM
- Open circuit in the earth wire to the PAM
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the LS-CAN wires to the PAM
- The PAM does not suit the car, for example a used module with other software or hardware
What you can do
- 1Engage reverse and release the handbrake. If the park assist text does not appear in the display, the fault is probably in the PAM or its supply
- 2Check the PAM fuse in the CEM. If it has blown, check the circuit after it for a short to earth before replacing it
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire from the CEM to the PAM has no break and is not shorted to earth
- 4Check the PAM earth point for contact resistance and oxidation, and that the wire to it is not broken
- 5With a diagnostic tool, read the PAM ID. If it reads, the communication is probably fine and the fault may be intermittent
- 6Check the supply first before replacing any part, since that is where the fault most often lies
Symptoms you may notice1
- The park assist system does not work
