What does this fault code mean?
The CEM measures CAN L in the low speed network as too high, which comes from a short to supply voltage. Communication between the control modules can then break down, and the gauges, instrument lighting, central locking and remote control may be affected. The fault should be traced in the network wiring.
Possible causes
- A short to supply voltage somewhere on the network, for example where the CAN L wire touches a supply line
What you can do
- 1Check which functions still work. Several functions dropping out at the same time points to the network wiring
- 2With a diagnostic tool, read the fault codes from all control modules and note which ones show communication faults
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the CAN L wire has no contact with supply voltage when it should not
- 4Check the harness and the connectors in the network for damage, chafing and loose connections
- 5Gently flex the harness while monitoring the communication to see whether the fault changes
- 6Do not replace the CEM for this code until a workshop has confirmed an internal fault in the CEM
Symptoms you may notice4
- No gauges work
- The instrument lighting does not work
- The remote control cannot be used to lock the car
- The central locking does not work at all
