What does this fault code mean?
The CEM detects a break in the CAN H wire of the high speed network. The engine may then not start, and the malfunction indicator can light with a message in the display. The fault most often lies in a broken wire or a poor connection in the network.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the CAN H wire in the high speed network
- Contact resistance in the connectors in the network
- Open circuit in another CAN wire in the high speed network
What you can do
- 1If the engine does not start, check the battery first, since a weak charge can cause many odd faults
- 2Check the connectors in the high speed CAN for loose connections, corrosion and moisture
- 3Check the harness for chafing and damage where it moves or passes through a grommet
- 4With a diagnostic tool, read the fault codes from all control modules. Communication faults in several modules point to a shared fault in the network
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the CAN H wire is continuous along its whole length and not broken
- 6After the repair, clear the fault code and check that the engine starts and the message does not return
Symptoms you may notice3
- The engine does not start
- The malfunction indicator lamp is lit
- A message appears in the display
