What does this fault code mean?
The CEM registers CAN L in the high speed network as shorted to supply voltage, which can cause the engine to stall or fail to start. The fault most often lies in the high speed network wiring.
Possible causes
- Short to supply on the CAN L wire in the high speed network
What you can do
- 1Start with the battery. A weak charge can cause odd faults, and it is the quickest thing to rule out
- 2Note at which positions or movements the engine stalls. This helps you find where the wiring is damaged
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the CAN L wire has no contact with supply voltage when it should not
- 4With a diagnostic tool, read the fault codes from all control modules and see which ones show communication faults
- 5Check the high speed network connectors for loose connections, corrosion and moisture
- 6A stall while driving is serious. Do not drive far with the fault present, and have a workshop trace it promptly
Symptoms you may notice4
- The engine does not start
- The engine stalls, including while driving
- The malfunction indicator lamp is lit
- A message appears in the text display
