Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
Communication with the module on the high speed network is seriously disturbed, so CAN communication is blocked. The module then switches itself off. The fault code can only be read out when the fault is intermittent, because the module cannot be reached while the fault is present.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wires in the high speed network
- Open circuit in the CAN wires in the high speed network
- Internal fault in the module
- Internal fault in another module on the same part of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Note which fault codes are stored in which modules. This gives a good basis for the fault tracing
- 2Check first whether the CEM holds codes for lost communication, and follow those before the others
- 3Check the high speed network connectors for corrosion, loose connections and moisture
- 4Gently flex the harness with the ignition on and see whether the communication changes
- 5Resistance measurements on the network require the supply to be cut, so have a workshop make them with the proper adapter harness
- 6A module that communicates faulty must be replaced, so the workshop needs to establish which one it is
Symptoms you may notice5
- The starter turns but the engine does not start
- The speedometer does not work
- The tachometer does not work
- The coolant temperature gauge does not work
- Cruise control does not work at all
What the fault can affect1
- The module goes into bus-off and stays disabled until its power supply is cut
