CEM-P046022
VOLVO
CEM-P046022 - Fuel Level Sensor A Circuit. General Signal Failures. Signal too high
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsV40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The signal reaching the CEM is too high, because the sensor is shorted to supply voltage. The fuel gauge can then show too high a level, and the trip computer calculates the remaining range wrongly. The code does not say more precisely what type of fault it is.
Possible causes
- The fuel level sensor on the right-hand side is shorted to supply voltage
What you can do
- 1Note whether the fuel gauge shows full even though you know it is not. Does it help to drive a short distance?
- 2Check the fuel pump and level sensor fuses in the engine bay and the CEM. If one has blown, check its circuit for a short to supply
- 3With a diagnostic tool, read the fuel level value in live data and see whether it changes as fuel is added or used
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the fuel level sensor has no contact with supply voltage
- 5Check the connectors in the wiring for loose connections and corrosion. Do not open the fuel system yourself
- 6Replacing the sensor or pump is for a workshop, since the fuel system is flammable
Symptoms you may notice2
- The trip computer shows a wrong fuel level or range
- The fuel gauge shows too high a value
