CEM-P046200 - Fuel Level Sensor A Circuit Low Input. General Failure Information. No sub type information
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The signal from the fuel level sensor is too low, because the sensor is shorted to earth. The code is generic and does not say what type of fault is behind it, only that the input is low. It shows up as the tank being shown empty too early and a wrong level reading.
Possible causes
- The fuel level sensor on the right-hand side is shorted to earth
What you can do
- 1With a diagnostic tool, read the fuel level value in live data. If it stays still while the tank is filled or emptied, the sensor is suspect
- 2Check the fuel pump and level sensor fuses in the engine bay and in the CEM. If one has blown, check its circuit for a short to earth before replacing it
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the fuel level sensor has no contact with earth
- 4Check the connectors in the wiring to the fuel pump for loose connections and corrosion
- 5Compare the fuel gauge with the trip computer and note when the difference appears
- 6Work on the fuel pump is for a workshop, since the fuel system is flammable
Symptoms you may notice2
- The trip computer shows the tank as empty too early
- A wrong fuel level is displayed
What the fault can affect1
- The fuel level is shown as zero
