Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM has registered an internal fault in its software, for example after a failed software upload. The engine may then not start. The fault is normally put right with new software or by replacing the module, and that is done by a workshop.
Possible causes
- Faulty software loaded in the CEM
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and start the car. If the fault returns straight away, it is an active software fault
- 2Tell the workshop if a software update was recently interrupted or failed, since that is an important clue
- 3Have a workshop read the fault codes and reload the CEM with the latest software. Programming is a workshop task
- 4If reprogramming has no effect, the CEM must be replaced, which is also a workshop task
- 5Make sure the battery is well charged during the upload, since low voltage can interrupt it
- 6After the work, check that the engine starts and that the fault code does not return
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine does not start
