Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
CEM monitors the reverse inhibit and the voltage on its signal cable. The signal cable is either broken or shorted to battery voltage, so reverse cannot be engaged. The inhibit may be switched off permanently if the fault persists.
Possible causes
- Open circuit on the signal wire to the reverse inhibit
- The signal wire to the reverse inhibit is shorted to battery voltage
What you can do
- 1Check that the reverse inhibit fuses in the engine bay fuse box and in the CEM are intact
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the reverse inhibit has no break with the ignition in position II
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with battery voltage
- 4Check the connectors on the signal wire for loose connections and corrosion
- 5With a diagnostic tool, clear the fault codes and start a new driving cycle. If the code returns straight away, the fault is active
- 6If no cause is found in the wiring, have a workshop check the relay and the CEM output
Symptoms you may notice1
- Reverse cannot be engaged
What the fault can affect2
- The inhibit switches off permanently after 100 driving cycles in which the fault was detected
- Erasing the fault codes resets the output
