Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
CEM checks the brake lamp diagnostic switch (BDS) at the brake pedal. If the switch is active even though the car is locked from outside, it has stuck in the closed position. The code is only stored after several lock and unlock cycles with the fault active, and it affects autostart and cruise control.
Possible causes
- The brake switch (BDS) is installed incorrectly
- The brake switch (BDS) is damaged
- The brake switch (BDS) is stuck
What you can do
- 1Check that the pedal returns freely and that the switch does not stay in the pressed position
- 2Leave the car locked for a while and check whether the fault remains. The code is only stored after several lock and unlock cycles
- 3Check that the brake switch is correctly fitted at the pedal and not damaged
- 4With a diagnostic tool, read the brake switch status in live data while pressing and releasing the pedal
- 5Check that the brake lights go out when the pedal is released. If they stay on, the switch is probably out of position
- 6The brake switch affects the brake lights and cruise control. Have a workshop replace or adjust it as needed
Symptoms you may notice3
- Autostart does not work
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
- The engine does not start, sometimes or always
