CEM-P165314
VOLVO
CEM-P165314 - Power Steering Output Circuit. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to ground or open
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM monitors the signal wire to the speed-dependent power steering module (HPAS). The signal wire is shorted to earth or broken, or the voltage stays constantly low. The speed-dependent power steering may then stop working, and a blown fuse can also cause the fault.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is shorted to earth
- Open circuit on the signal wire
- The fuse in the circuit is not working
What you can do
- 1Start the engine and turn the wheel back and forth. If the steering feels heavy, the fault is active
- 2Check the power steering module fuse in the engine bay relay and fuse box. If it has blown, check its circuit for a short to earth before replacing it
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not shorted to earth and has no break
- 4Check the connectors on the signal wire for loose connections and corrosion
- 5Steering is a safety function. Have a workshop repair the fault promptly rather than putting it off
- 6After the repair, clear the fault code and check that the wheel turns easily
Symptoms you may notice1
- The power steering assistance control does not work
