Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM has registered a fault in its software. The code is generic and does not say more precisely what type of fault it is. The engine may then not start, and the gauges, instrument lighting and indicators can also be affected. A workshop fixes the fault with new software.
Possible causes
- Software fault in the CEM
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and start the car. If the fault returns straight away, it is an active software fault
- 2Tell the workshop if a software update was recently interrupted or failed
- 3Have a workshop read the fault codes and reload the CEM with the latest software. Programming is a workshop task
- 4Make sure the battery is well charged during the reload, since low voltage can interrupt it
- 5After the reload, check that the engine starts and the gauges work
- 6If the fault remains after the reload, the CEM must be replaced, which is also a workshop task
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine does not start
- No gauges work
- The instrument lighting does not work
- The turn signals do not work
