What does this fault code mean?
The fault code means that the two wires in the extended CAN network are short-circuited to each other. Messages between the control modules then become wrong or stop, and the park assist camera, blind spot system and cross traffic alert may stop working.
Possible causes
- The two CAN wires in the extended network touch each other, for example at a chafed spot
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in all control modules, clear them and road test the car to see whether they return
- 2Switch the ignition off and inspect the two wires for chafing and pinch damage, especially where they lie close together
- 3With the battery negative lead disconnected, use a multimeter to confirm the wires do not touch. Twist the harness during the test
- 4If the short cannot be seen, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the network. Replace the CEM only when fault-finding points to it
Symptoms you may notice3
- Park assist camera does not work
- Blind spot monitoring (BLIS) does not function
- Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) does not work
