System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The fault code means that the control module storing the fault does not get a link to the suspension module (SUM). The SUM belongs to the Four-C function, which controls the damping in the chassis, and when it does not respond the function may stop working. The fault concerns the CAN network and not one individual control module.
Possible causes
- No power reaching the suspension module (SUM)
- Broken ground wire to the suspension module
- Poor contact in the connections
- Open or shorted CAN wiring
- A module not intended for the car, such as a used unit with other software or hardware
What you can do
- 1Switch the ignition off and check the SUM connectors and wiring harness for loose contact, oxidation and damage
- 2Check that the fuses for the module are intact
- 3Switch the ignition on and change the driving mode with the switch. If the mode does not change, check power and ground to the module
- 4Check the battery connection for contact resistance and oxidation, and look especially for damage in the wiring
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop check the CAN wires. Replace the CEM only if testing has shown it is damaged
Symptoms you may notice2
- The general warning lamp is on
- The Four-C function does not work
