Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The fault code means that the control module storing the fault has lost, or has disrupted, its link to the steering angle sensor (SAS). The SAS is housed in the stalk module alongside the steering wheel module, which supplies its power. Several functions depend on the steering angle sensor, so several of them can be affected at the same time, including the stability function.
Possible causes
- No power reaching the steering angle sensor (SAS)
- Broken ground wire to the steering angle sensor module
- Poor contact in the connections
- Open or shorted CAN wiring
- A module not intended for the car, such as a used unit with other software or hardware
What you can do
- 1Switch the ignition off and check the connectors to the steering angle sensor and the steering wheel and lever module for loose contact, oxidation and damage
- 2Check that the steering wheel module (SWM) has power and a good ground, since the sensor is supplied from it
- 3Check the fuse for the steering wheel module in the fusebox and the ground point for loose contact
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read whether the sensor responds. If it does not, check the power supply to the steering wheel module first
- 5Safety: the sensor affects steering and stability. Have a workshop check the system with diagnostic equipment. Replace the CEM only if testing has shown it is damaged
Symptoms you may notice5
- Cruise control does not work
- Windscreen wiper only works at the lowest speed
- Direction indicators do not work
- Buttons on the steering wheel do not work
- Stability function does not work
