CEM-U012800 - Lost Communication With Electrical parking brake. General Failure Information. No sub type information
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The fault code means that the control module storing the fault does not reach the electric parking brake module (PBM). The parking brake is controlled electronically, so when the link breaks the function may stop working. The fault concerns the network and not one individual control module.
Possible causes
- No power supply to the parking brake module (PBM)
- Broken ground wire to the parking brake module
- Poor contact in the connections
- Open or shorted CAN wiring
- A module not intended for the car, such as a used unit with other software or hardware
What you can do
- 1Switch the ignition on and apply the parking brake. The parking brake symbol should light in the instrument panel
- 2Check that the fuse for the parking brake module is intact
- 3Check the module ground wire for breaks, and the connectors for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4With a diagnostic tool, read whether the module responds and note if the code returns
- 5Safety: the parking brake is safety related. Have a workshop check it with diagnostic equipment. Replace the CEM only if testing has shown it is damaged
Symptoms you may notice1
- Electric parking brake does not work
