Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The fault code means that the control module storing the fault has lost, or has disrupted, its link to the power steering control module (PSCM). Steering can be affected when that module does not respond, and the fault concerns the CAN network rather than one individual control module.
Possible causes
- No power supply to the power steering control module (PSCM)
- Broken ground wire to the control module
- Poor contact in the connections
- Open or shorted CAN wiring
- A module not intended for the car, such as a used unit with other software or hardware
What you can do
- 1Check the fuse for the power steering module in the engine bay relay and fuse centre. If blown, look for a short to ground before fitting a new one
- 2Check the connectors and connections in the engine bay relay and fuse centre for loose contact and oxidation
- 3Check the ground wire for breaks or a short to voltage, and the ground point for play and oxidation
- 4With a diagnostic tool, read whether the module responds. A response means communication works at that moment
- 5Safety: steering is affected. Have a workshop check the power steering with diagnostic equipment. Replace the CEM only if testing shows a fault in it
Symptoms you may notice1
- Steering does not work as it should
