Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The fault code means that the control module storing the fault does not get a working link to the airbag control module (SRS), or the link is disturbed. The airbag warning lamp may light, and the system is safety critical. The fault should therefore be checked by a workshop.
Possible causes
- Missing power supply to the airbag control module (SRS)
- Broken ground wire to the airbag control module
- Poor contact in the connections
- Open or shorted CAN wiring
- A module not intended for the car, such as a used unit with other software or hardware
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in all control modules and note them for the workshop
- 2Check that the battery is in good condition and its terminals are tight, since weak voltage can cause airbag false warnings
- 3Do not carry out your own work on the airbag system, even if a loose plug seems to be the cause
- 4With a diagnostic tool, check whether the module responds, without clearing anything in the system
- 5Safety: have a workshop check the airbag wiring and ground connection. Replace the CEM only if testing has shown it is damaged
Symptoms you may notice1
- Airbag warning lamp is lit
