CEM-U030141 - Software Incompatibility with ECM/PCM. System Internal Failures. General checksum failure
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
Every time the engine control module (ECM) starts up, the stored checksum of its software is compared with a calculated one. If they differ, this code is set, which happens when the software has been changed, for example after an optimisation, or when it is corrupted. If the software was changed on purpose, the code does not need to be acted on.
Possible causes
- The engine control module software has been changed
- Invalid internal checksum in the engine control module software
What you can do
- 1If the engine control module has had modified software, for example an optimisation, that explains the code and it needs no action
- 2Tell the workshop that the software has been modified so that it is not overwritten by mistake during a software download
- 3If the software has not been changed on purpose, have a workshop download new software to the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
