CEM-U040086 - Invalid Data Received. Bus Signal / Message Failures. Signal invalid
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The fault code means that CEM receives invalid information about the car's attitude, meaning load, acceleration and braking. On cars with Four-C the information comes from the suspension module (SUM), and on other cars from the position sensors in the suspension. The headlamp height and side adjustment can then be affected.
Possible causes
- Faulty or missing communication with the suspension module (SUM), on cars with Four-C
- Faulty signal from one of the position sensors at the front or rear suspension
- Check stored fault codes for the position sensors, since the cause often lies there
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in all control modules and note which position sensors have codes
- 2Check the connectors to the position sensors at the front and rear suspension for loose contact and damage
- 3On a car with Four-C, have a workshop read the suspension module with diagnostic equipment
- 4With a diagnostic tool, read the position sensor values in live data and check that they change smoothly as the car moves over a bump
Symptoms you may notice3
- Headlamp side adjustment does not follow the steering or does not work
- Headlamp height is wrong or the adjustment does not work
- Text window and warning symbol with a text message
What the fault can affect2
- Constant light beam length is used
- Side adjustment freezes straight ahead
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
