CEM-U200562
VOLVO
CEM-U200562 - Vehicle Speed. Algorithm Based Failures. Signal compare failure
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
8 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The fault code means that CEM has received two speed signals from the brake control module (BCM) that differ too much over several driving cycles in a row. CEM uses the comparison to decide whether the car is standing still, and this controls the steering column lock. The fault may lie in a damaged sensor or in the BCM.
Possible causes
- Damaged sensor that measures speed
- Fault inside the BCM itself
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the brake control module (BCM) first, since this code comes from there and clears once the root fault is fixed
- 2With the engine off and the car stationary, try locking and unlocking the steering column lock, and note whether it works
- 3Safety: the speed signal affects both braking and the steering lock. Have a workshop check the BCM and sensors with diagnostic equipment
- 4Do not replace the CEM unless a workshop has shown it is damaged, since the fault usually lies in a sensor or the BCM
Symptoms you may notice4
- Steering column lock does not lock or unlock
- Message in the information display
- Starter motor does not turn over or the engine does not start
- Text window and warning symbol with a text message
