What does this fault code mean?
The central electronic module (CEM) has found an internal software fault, a checksum that does not match. The fault is stored while the ignition is on and the module has power. It can stop the engine from starting, make the car hesitate, and cause several gauges and comfort functions to stop working.
Possible causes
- Faulty software installed in the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it, then road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Check that the battery is charged and that the battery terminals are tight, since low voltage can disturb the module
- 3Has the car recently had new software or an update that was interrupted? Tell the workshop
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop reload the module software with the latest version
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine does not start
- The car hesitates, surges or feels jerky when driving
- The cruise control cannot be engaged
- Gauges such as the speedometer or coolant temperature gauge show wrong readings or do not work
- Central locking or climate control does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The functions of the central electronic module (CEM) are restricted
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
