What does this fault code mean?
The central electronic module (CEM) has found an internal software fault, with a checksum that does not match. The fault may be due to a software download that failed, or to an internal fault in the module. It is stored while the ignition is on and can affect starting, driving, cruise control and several gauges.
Possible causes
- Faulty software installed in the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then road test the car and see whether the fault returns
- 2Has the software been reloaded recently? If that update was interrupted it may need to be done again
- 3Check that the battery is holding a good charge, since low voltage can stop an update from completing
- 4If the fault returns after a reload, have a workshop replace the central electronic module (CEM)
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine does not start
- Poor performance and lack of power, especially when pulling away
- Jerky running and hesitation under acceleration
- Cruise control does not engage
- The speedometer and tachometer show wrong readings
What the fault can affect1
- The functions of the central electronic module (CEM) are restricted
