CEM-U210848 - Adaptive Cruise Control. System Internal Failures. Supervision software failure
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsV40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
On the V40, the CEM constantly monitors the adaptive cruise control system. The fault is stored while the engine runs when the signal from FSM, ECM or BCM is wrong. The code points to another module as the cause, and cruise control cannot be engaged while the fault is present.
Possible causes
- The fault most likely sits in the sending unit, for example the front sensing unit (FSM), the engine ECM or the brake BCM
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, read the codes in the forward sensing module, engine control module and brake control module and clear those first
- 2Clear the code in the CEM once the other faults are dealt with, then road test to see whether it returns
- 3While the fault is present cruise control cannot be used, so drive with full attention and keep your own distance
- 4If the fault returns after the other codes are cleared, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the central electronic module (CEM)
Symptoms you may notice2
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
