CEM-U210853 - Adaptive Cruise Control. System Programming Failures. Deactivated
System
Central Electronic Module (CEM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The CEM keeps watch over adaptive cruise control at all times. The fault is stored while the engine runs when the signal from FSM, ECM or BCM is wrong. The function is then deactivated and cannot be used until the fault is corrected.
Possible causes
- The fault most likely sits in the sending unit, for example the front sensing unit (FSM), the engine ECM or the brake BCM
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, read the codes in the forward sensing module, engine control module and brake control module and clear those first
- 2Clear the code in the CEM once the other faults are dealt with, then road test to see whether it returns
- 3Safety: the braking system must work fully, so do not drive with a brake pedal that feels abnormally hard without having a workshop check it
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop reprogram the central electronic module (CEM) and check the signals from the other modules
Symptoms you may notice2
- Adaptive cruise control does not work
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
