CPM-5001
VOLVO
CPM-5001 - Control module. Over heated
System
Combustion Pre-heater Module (CPM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
A reading at the overheat thermostat or the coolant temperature sensor has gone above the allowed level, so the heater is switched off and the code is set. If the heater is activated again it makes a new start attempt. The fault can be caused by a damaged thermostat, sensor or water pump, or by air or a leak in the cooling system.
Possible causes
- Damaged overheat protection thermostat
- Damaged engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor
- Damaged water pump
- Air or leakage in the cooling system
- Damaged heater
What you can do
- 1Check the coolant hoses for damage and leaks, and look for air in the system
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the water pump and listen for a buzzing sound; if there is none, the fault is probably permanent
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the temperature at the overheat protection thermostat and at the coolant temperature sensor and see whether they differ strongly
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop measure the resistance of the thermostat and sensor and check the heater
Symptoms you may notice2
- Poor heating in the passenger compartment
- The parking heater does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The heater is deactivated when the code is set
- If the heater is activated again, it makes a new start attempt
