Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The CPM has registered that the temperature inside the heater has become too high, so the code is set. The heater cannot be activated until the code has been cleared. The cause may be a damaged thermostat or sensor, a damaged water pump, or air and a leak in the cooling system.
Possible causes
- Damaged overheat protection thermostat
- Damaged coolant temperature sensor
- Air or leakage in the cooling system
- Damaged water pump
What you can do
- 1Check the coolant hoses for damage and leaks before clearing the code
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the water pump and listen for a buzzing sound; if it does not start, the pump is suspect
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the temperatures at the overheat protection thermostat and the coolant temperature sensor and note the values for the workshop
- 4Clear the code and start the heater again once the hoses and pump have been checked
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop measure the resistances and check the heater
Symptoms you may notice2
- Poor heating in the passenger compartment
- The parking heater does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The heater cannot be activated until the fault code has been cleared
