Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The CPM has logged repeated overheating of the heater, several times in a row, which sets the code. The fault can be caused by a damaged sensor, thermostat or water pump, or by air or a leak in the cooling system.
Possible causes
- Damaged coolant temperature sensor
- Damaged overheat protection thermostat
- Air or leakage in the cooling system
- Damaged water pump
What you can do
- 1Check the coolant hoses for damage and leaks, and look for air in the system
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the water pump and listen for a buzzing sound; if there is none, the pump is suspect
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the temperatures at the overheat protection thermostat and the coolant temperature sensor and see whether one differs strongly from the other
- 4Clear the code and check whether it returns when the ignition is switched on
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop test the thermostat, the sensor and the water pump with measurements
Symptoms you may notice1
- The parking heater does not work
