Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The fault code is set when the heater control module measures too high a voltage across the glow plug. This points to the cable being short-circuited to battery positive or to an open circuit. The heater's function is then blocked, and the heating in the cabin can be poor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the wiring
- Cables short-circuited to ground
- Damaged glow plug
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, look for signs of corrosion, green or white deposits, in the connectors at the glow plug and on the heater.
- 2Look for visible damage to the wiring, such as chafing or breaks, from the heater to the glow plug.
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the cable to the glow plug has no contact with ground (the body) and is not broken.
- 4Replace the glow plug if its connector or cable is damaged.
- 5If the connector on the heater is damaged, have a workshop assess whether the fan motor needs replacing.
- 6If the fault returns after checking the wiring, have a workshop check the software in the heater control module.
Symptoms you may notice2
- Poor heating in the cabin
- The parking or auxiliary heater does not work when it is activated
What the fault can affect1
