CPM-B1D241E - Glow Plug. General Electrical Failures. Circuit resistance out of range
System
Combustion Pre-heater Module (CPM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
6 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The heater control module has measured that the electrical resistance of the glow plug is outside the permitted range. The heater then takes too long to warm up or does not get hot enough in the front or rear part of the car. The heater's function is blocked.
Possible causes
- Damaged glow plug
- Defective cables and connections to the glow plug
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, check for corrosion and loose connections at the glow plug and at the heater connector.
- 2Look for visible damage to the cable to the glow plug and make sure it is firmly attached.
- 3Replace the glow plug if it is damaged or if its connector is damaged.
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the cable to the glow plug is not broken. If it has an open circuit, the cable needs to be repaired or replaced.
- 5If the connector on the heater is damaged, have a workshop assess whether the fan motor needs replacing.
Symptoms you may notice5
- Temperature control gives too weak heat in the front section
- Warm-up takes a long time in the front section
- The rear section does not get hot enough
- Warm-up takes a long time in the rear section
- The heater or the parking heater does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The heater's function is blocked
