What does this fault code mean?

The fault code concerns the positive feed to the fuel pump in the auxiliary heater, which has a short to ground, or a signal from the pump that is too low. The control module then switches the heater off. If the heater is activated again, it makes a new start attempt. Common causes are damaged wiring, a short to ground or a faulty pump.

    Possible causes

    • Damaged cable or connection
    • Cables short-circuited to ground
    • Damaged fuel pump
    • Short to ground in the cable between the heater control module and the fuel pump

    What you can do

    1. 1With the ignition off, check the wiring and connectors between the heater and the fuel pump for damage, looseness or incorrect fitting, and for corrosion.
    2. 2Check that the earth connection to the heater is firmly attached and clean.
    3. 3Use a multimeter to check that the positive wire to the fuel pump has no contact with ground (the body). If it does, repair or replace the wire.
    4. 4Use gloves and safety goggles when working near the fuel pump, as fuel can spill. Disconnect the pump connector and check it for corrosion and looseness.
    5. 5Replace the fuel pump if its connector is damaged, or have a workshop do it.
    6. 6If the fault remains after checking the wiring, have a workshop check the fuel pump and the heater control module.

    Symptoms you may notice3

    • Poor heating in the cabin
    • The parking or auxiliary heater does not work when it is activated
    • The parking heater does not work

    What the fault can affect2

    • The heater is switched off when the fault occurs
    • The heater makes a new start attempt if it is activated again

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
