Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The heater control module has found an electrical fault on the combustion air fan motor, for example a short to battery voltage or an open circuit. The heater's function is blocked, and the heating in the cabin can be poor. The fault may be caused by a loose connector, damaged wiring or a damaged fan motor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in the connections
- Open circuit in the wiring
- Wiring short-circuited to battery voltage
- Damaged fan motor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuse for the auxiliary heater is intact.
- 2With the ignition off, check the connectors and wiring to the fan for corrosion, looseness and damage.
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wiring to the fan is not broken and has no battery voltage when the ignition is off.
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the heater fan and listen for a buzzing sound. If nothing is heard, the fault is probably still present.
- 5Replace the fan motor if it is damaged, but only after the wiring has been checked and found to be in order.
- 6If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment investigate further.
Symptoms you may notice2
- Poor heating in the cabin
- The parking or auxiliary heater does not work when it is activated
What the fault can affect1
- The heater's function is blocked
