What does this fault code mean?

The heater gets no flame after starting, both on the first attempt and on the restart attempt. The heater is then switched off and the fault code is set. The fault may be caused by too little fuel, a blocked intake system or a fault in the fuel system, or by a damaged flame sensor.

    Possible causes

    • Insufficient fuel supply or too low a fuel level
    • Blocked intake system
    • Leak or damage in the fuel system
    • Blocked fuel filter
    • Damaged flame sensor
    • Damaged heater

    What you can do

    1. 1Check the fuel level in the tank. Top up if it is low, then try starting the heater again.
    2. 2Check the air intake and the intake to the heater for blockages from leaves, snow or dirt, and remove what is blocking it.
    3. 3Use gloves and safety goggles, as fuel can spill. With the ignition off, check the fuel line for leaks.
    4. 4Fix any other fault codes in the auxiliary heater first, as they may be the cause of the problem.
    5. 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fuel metering in live data. Have a workshop assess the value, as it must be compared with limit values.
    6. 6If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop check the fuel system, the flame sensor and the heater itself.

    Symptoms you may notice3

    • Poor heating in the cabin
    • The parking or auxiliary heater does not work when it is activated
    • The parking heater does not work

    What the fault can affect2

    • The heater makes several start attempts and switches off if no flame appears
    • The heater's function is blocked after several failed start attempts

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
