VOLVO
CPM-E003 - Configuration fault. Faulty configuration
System
Combustion Pre-heater Module (CPM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The heater control module has not received an approved identity number from the central electronic module, so its configuration does not match. The fault code is also set if communication between the two control modules is interrupted. A possible cause is a used control module that has been fitted to the car without its software being loaded.
Possible causes
- Incorrect CAN configuration ID, for example from a used control module with different software or hardware
- Open circuit in the CAN wiring between the heater control module and the central electronic module
What you can do
- 1If the control module is new or used, have a workshop check that it has the right software and configuration for the car.
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fault codes in the central electronic module and in the heater. Faults in both may point to a break in the wiring between them.
- 3Check that the connectors and wiring between the heater and the central electronic module are intact, with no chafing or corrosion.
- 4If the configuration is wrong, have a workshop update the module's software so that it matches the car.
Symptoms you may notice2
- Poor heating in the cabin
- The parking heater does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The control module only responds to diagnostic commands and not to normal CAN communication
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
