Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:

What does this fault code mean?
The fault code says the coolant temperature sensor has a short to ground. The heater's function is blocked, and warm-up may be slow or absent in the front or rear part of the car. The causes may be an incorrect coolant level, an electrical fault, or a damaged pump or cooling circuit.
Possible causes
- Coolant level outside the permitted range
- Electrical fault
- Damaged coolant pump
- Damaged cooling circuit
- Damaged coolant temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Check the coolant level and mixture with the engine cold. If the level or mixture is wrong, have a workshop drain, refill and bleed the cooling system.
- 2Check that the coolant hoses to the heater are not kinked or deformed. Straighten them if possible.
- 3With the ignition off, look for damage to the wiring to the coolant temperature sensor, such as chafing or damaged insulation.
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: watch the coolant temperature in live data while the heater runs, and see whether it rises evenly.
- 5Have a workshop measure the resistance in the sensor and check the coolant pump. Replace the sensor if it is damaged, and the pump if it does not start.
Symptoms you may notice4
- The parking heater does not work
- The heat does not get hot enough in the rear section
- The heat does not get hot enough in the front section
- The heater does not work with the temperature control
What the fault can affect1
- The heater's function is blocked
