CPM-U014000 - Lost communication with Central Electronic Module (CEM). General Failure Information. No sub type information
System
Combustion Pre-heater Module (CPM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsV40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The heater control module normally gets vehicle information from the central electronic module over the CAN network. Here that information has stopped arriving, so the fault lies first in the network or in the central electronic module, not in the heater. The heater may then give uneven temperature or not work.
Possible causes
- Fault in the central electronic module, which does not send the information the heater is waiting for
- Open circuit or short circuit in the CAN wiring
- Incorrect configuration after a control module was replaced without new software being downloaded
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on, read the fault codes in several control modules. If several show communication faults, start with the codes in the central electronic module.
- 2If the fault seems intermittent, erase the fault code and check whether it returns.
- 3With the ignition off, check that the CAN network wiring is intact, with no chafing, breaks or corrosion.
- 4If the control module has been replaced recently, have a workshop download the correct software to it.
- 5Have a workshop measure the CAN wiring with diagnostic equipment. The measurement requires the central electronic module to be removed.
Symptoms you may notice2
- The parking heater does not work
- Temperature control gives uneven temperature
